shannon and i were hanging out yesterday. went to brunch at wayward as is our usual sunday morning routine. what's our plan for today? umm... i dunno. we should go camping! alright. so we stopped by my house grabbed my tent and some other gear and headed off. with our wayward leftovers of course. we climbed mount teneriffe which is about a block from shannon's parent's house out in north bend, wa. it's about 14 miles round trip and 3716 feet of elevation gain. (see facebook for pictures) it was a killer hike. my shins were screaming pretty much the entire way. but gorgeous. i love how after a while your pack becomes a part of you. at first it's this weird heavy thing that is throwing off your balance and won't settle right on your back. but then your body adjusts. it's still super heavy. and makes your back hurt. but it's no longer awkward. anyways. we got to the top and set up our tent. at this point it got super cold. and because we didn't plan at all, i failed to bring any warm clothing. i was like oh, it's hot now, it'll be hot later too. even when we are 4680 feet up and in the clouds. so all i had was shorts and a t-shirt. anyways, we went to sleep before the sun went down. we were tired. and shannon didn't bring a book. it rained all night. we almost didn't put the fly on the tent because it was so nice and sunny. i'm glad we did. so reverse a little bit. remember when i was packing and forgot to grab warm clothes? well same time i was like hmmm, should i bring my thermarest and/or camp pillow? nah. i'll be fine for one night. if by fine you mean pointy rocks bulging into me and a cramped neck from being on a slope and tossing and turning all night, then yes i was fine. although not consecutive hours, i think i slept a good amount. we woke up pretty early with the sun. and were down the mountain by about 9AM. went to shannon's parent's house. ate some really good food (grilled eggplant, portabella mushroom and spinach sandwiches on a toasted bun with a side of sautéed kale and some yam fries for a snack). and some other random things.
overall, it was a super random weekend with a spontaneous hiking trip thrown in the mix. hiking is so good. i haven't done it in a few months. but it's amazing. for most of the hike we didn't really talk. just walked. each deep in our own thoughts. enjoying the trees and the views. oh and we got attacked by bugs multiple times. hmm.. yeah i dunno. that's all i guess. it was a good weekend for sure. good weekend.
