Coffee
This morning I learned how to make coffee. I have never had coffee and never plan to and definitely have never made coffee. But, as I think I have mentioned before, I do morning outreach at work where we go out around 8AM and hand out coffee and oatmeal and socks and granola bars to homeless youth. Usually they are just waking up and are super stoked to see us. Especially with the coffee. So, if I am going to bring coffee to the kids, I have to be able to make the coffee, right? So my co-worker taught me this morning before we went out on outreach. It is not very complicated. And he said to always put in more coffee grounds than the bag tells you to. Nobody likes brown water. But I was thinking, I probably wouldn't make coffee for anyone else.

i recently drank more coffee than i ever have before--i haven't had it in years. but i tried cold press coffee which is quite good, and i had finals so for once i actually caffeinated myself. i like the culture of black coffee (not yuppie coffee drinks)--like my favorite restaurant, you can get a cup of coffee for like 75cents or something, and if you order something else in comes in a tall pretentious glass, versus the simplicity of the plain white coffee mug. so i thought i'd try it. i was thinking of starting to make it at home but i really don't feel like investing in coffee infrastructure, so i think i'll stick to a cup of black coffee every now and then in an awesome plain white mug at hard times cafe. you know what i mean? let me SAT it for you: real black coffee is to other breakfast beverages as reading the hard copy of the new york times is to surfing internet news websites. there are just some sacred things in life (even if i barely ever do them) to which i have to give some credit.
