Learning patience from food
Yesterday I was very much in the mood to cook. First I baked some bread. Taking time to wait for it to rise. I like that part, it teaches me patience. At the same time, I started soaking some black beans. This teaches me even more patience. I wanted to make something, but I had to wait quite a while for the beans to soak and then you have to cook them. It's like the opposite of instant that our culture is so used to. It takes so much longer than buying them in a can. But it is so much better. These particular beans I got from the farmer's market. So they were cheaper, support a local farm, taste better, have no packaging, and teach me patience. What's not to love? So while I was waiting for the beans to soak, I made a chocolate cake. I had been craving some chocolate for the past week or so. I did some other things, then came back to the beans later after they were all done soaking. I made a black bean and spinach lasagna. I have never made lasagna before. It was really good. Even Marc, who is all about his meat and cheese, said it was good. Then for dessert, some baked apples with blueberries.
