New crew tomorrow

So the new crew of youth that I have been working so hard to interview and hire start tomorrow.  I am super excited!  Ten new youth and one new lead gardener to get to know and learn from.  I think this is going to be a great crew of kids.  They are actually a bit older than the last crew.  Our age restrictions are 14-21 and I guess I would say we usually get mostly 14-18, or at least this is how it was in the Fall.  But this winter season it is all 17-21 year olds.  There were a few 16 year olds and just one 14 year old who applied this time around.  So I think crew is going to be a bit different because of this.  They will be a bit more mature I think which means we can probably go a bit more in depth on a lot of the lessons with them.  It is always so interesting to see the personality the group takes on.

I dunno, I'm just excited to really get to know these 11 amazing people.  And to watch them form a team and work together to complete a project and learn about themselves and about horticulture and to gain experience and knowledge and to increase their self confidence and just feel empowered.  I want to give them some of their power back that the world has taken away from them.  To try to remove some of the weight that is so heavily on their shoulders and pushes them down.  I am excited to watch them grow like a plant through the tough soil and also shoot out deep roots and foundations that will keep them standing for a long while.

It's going to be a great day and a great winter crew and I can't wait to get started!
