Today was harvest Friday in the garden again. There were SO MANY tomatoes as in previous weeks. There were like two little buckets full of sun gold cherry tomatoes that were all split. We can't sell the split ones at the market, so a few of us took a bunch home. There were also four GIANT heirloom tomatoes that were also split. I ended up taking two of those. So I had an abundance of tomatoes that all needed to be cooked/eaten pretty quickly. So I made some rice and tomatoes with the sun golds which was very simple but tasted pretty amazing. Then I pureed the two heirlooms and made some fresh tomato soup that I put in the freezer.
Tomatoes are so wonderful. They can be eaten raw, like candy. There is nothing better than biting into a tomato and having the slightly warm juice run down your chin. They are also pretty great cooked just about any way you could possibly think of and they go with anything. Tomatoes really are super great, especially the ones that the youth have grown in the garden. My favorite are definitely the sun gold. They are super sweet. I'm trying to eat as many tomatoes as possible before the season comes to a close. Mmmm, so good!
