So the people that moved out of the house before I moved in left 2 couches in the front of the house marked free. Our landlord said that we were welcome to them but that the previous tenants were going to bring them to the landfill by the end of the week if nobody had claimed them. So today a few of us took a walk over to the U-district to explore. When we left, we noticed that 1 of the couches was gone. We assumed they had taken it to the landfill and would be coming back for the other one soon. We turned the corner of our street and walked a block to one of the busy corners. There were 2 homeless guys standing there with signs. (This is a popular spot because there is an exit ramp from I-5. I have seen many different homeless people there already.) We notice that the couch from in front of our house is tucked away under a tree up against the back fence. This made me smile. SUCH a better place for it then in the landfill. Not only is it not going to someplace awful, but it is being used for good. The guys will now have someplace to sit and maybe even take a nap that will be a lot more comfortable than hard concrete.
Sidenote: When one of my other roommates got home I overheard her say, "I heard the bums took our couch." I very much dislike the word "bum".

Awesome story. I absolutely love it. I'm disappointed every single time I hear someone use the word bum...so I know where you are coming from...make sure to use it as an opportunity to educate.
